ENVIRONMENTAL PAVING SYSTEMS
BY INTERLOCK PAVING SYSTEMS, INC.

Impervious surfaces, storm water runoff control,
water conservation, "sustainability" in design, "zero impact"
development, environmental compliance, BMP.....; these terms along with many others are of
increasingly profound importance as they are employed in the creation of friendly
environmental permeable paving systems.
We at Interlock Paving
Systems, Inc. are extremely proud of our early leadership and continuing
involvement in the development of practical and economically sound alternatives to
impervious paving systems, (i.e. asphalt, rigid concrete, rigid
porous concrete, and their derivatives). The stormwater runoff problems incurred by
the continued employment of these impervious methods which pollute our environment
in a somewhat subtle manner, i.e. to the unobservant, will become more manifest as
tremendously higher taxes and use fees loom on the horizon. These taxes, similar to
those which municipalities charge citizens to remove sewage and trash, will help pay for
the cost of controlling and treating storm water runoff and meet stringent EPA guidelines.
Through the employment of Interlock
Paving Systems, Inc. Interlock-Eco, Turfstone, and their component systems... both considered a best
management practice (BMP)...; a means of reducing the aforementioned storm water utility
fees; i.e., taxes, is provided. Recognition of certified stormwater management
practices were offered in 1996 by Senate and House Bills for enactment by the General
Assembly of Virginia, allowing "the governing body of any country, city or town may,
by ordinance, exempt or partially exempt such property from local taxation."
The intent of these incentives to maintain permeable surfaces include parking lots, patios, driveways, etcinclude parking lots, patios, driveways, etc. Through
proper employment of our Interlock-Eco and/or Turfstone systems the need for detention ponds can be reduced in
some instances, more green space made available for development, and storm sewers can be
reduced or eliminated. Our systems also present the opportunity of having the entire
square footage of a driveway or patio red lined from the calculated percentage of
allowable impervious surfaces, which varies from municipality to municipality.
INTERLOCKING CONCRETE PAVER SOLUTIONS FOR SOME BIG ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
Interlock-Eco
The Environmentally Beneficial Paving System

Features
of the Interlock-Eco Paving System
The unique, patented design
features funnel-like openings in the pavement surface which facilitate rainwater
infiltration, thereby reducing or eliminating stormwater runoff and maximizing groundwater
recharge and/or storage.
Lessens or eliminates
downstream flooding, stream bed and bank erosion and mitigates pollution impact >on
surrounding surface waters.
Decreases project costs by
reducing or eliminating drainage and retention systems required by impermeable pavements
and reduces cost of compliance with many stormwater regulatory requirements.
Permits better land-use
planning, allowing more efficient use of available land for greater economic
value
Provides a highly durable,
yet permeable pavement surface capable of supporting vehicular loads.

Composition and Manufacture
Interlock-Eco is made from a "no slump"
concrete mix. Made under extreme pressure and high-frequency
vibrations. Interlock-Eco has a minimum compressive strength of
8000 psi, a maximum water absorption of 5% and will meet or exceed
ASTM C-936 and freeze-thaw testing per section 8 of ASTM C-67.

Features of the Turfstone® Paving
System
Offers specific and
distinct advantages for controlling erosion of and giving soil stabilization to slopes,
embankments, river and low flow channels, flood plains and the shorelines of inland
rivers, dikes, creeks, lakes, ponds and reservoirs, where there is no extreme wave action.
Reinforces grassy
areas subjected to wheeled traffic that would otherwise become so compacted as to inhibit
the permeability of the soil, well suited for overflow parking.
It is often
necessary to provide emergency and maintenance routes through greenspaces, parkland and
institutional complexes. Turfstone® enables the traffic to go where
the grass grows, it is a suitable product for fire routes which, because of landscaping
consideration, must remain greenspace.
